Interview with Huiting, founder of Jhoou Studio

Welcome, lovely readers!

Today, we're embarking on a delightful journey into the world of Jhoou Studio, where creativity meets sustainability in the most enchanting way. Join us as we sit down with Huiting, founder of Jhoou Studio, to uncover the heartwarming stories and inspirations behind their eco-friendly and cheerful homeware creations.

GiftGood: Thank you for joining us today, Huiting. Before we get started, can you share some fun facts about yourself with our readers?

JS: Hi! I am Huiting, the founder of Jhoou Studio. Apart from being a passionate creator, I'm also an avid traveller. I find so much inspiration for my work from the places I've visited. Travelling not only fuels my wanderlust but also broadens my perspective and infuses my designs with a sense of adventure.

GiftGood: What's the storybook version of how Jhoou Studio came to life? What spark ignited your passion for creating these beautiful, eco-friendly pieces?

JS: From a young age, I've been drawn to arts and crafts, yet I never had the chance to pursue formal studies in the field. Feeling burnt out during the pandemic and seeking a new sense of purpose, I decided to turn my passion into a business.

With newfound time and determination, I embarked on the adventure of creating beautiful, eco-friendly homewares, and thus, Jhoou Studio emerged.

GiftGood: I'm intrigued by the blend of 'shou' and Jesmonite in your brand name. Could you share the story of how you landed on 'Jhoou Studio'?

JS: Absolutely! 'Jhoou' is a fusion of 'shou,' representing 'Hand' in Mandarin, symbolizing our hands-on approach to craftsmanship, combined with 'Jesmonite,' the heart of our creations.

It encapsulates the essence of our dedication to the art of handmade homewares with each piece crafted with intention and passion.

GiftGood: In a world where 'sustainable' is often a buzzword, how do you keep it real and meaningful in your choice of materials and processes?

JS:  "Sustainability isn't just a buzzword for us—it's a core value ingrained in every aspect of our business. We uphold this commitment by carefully selecting eco-friendly materials like Jesmonite, minimising waste during production, and opting for sustainable packaging solutions.  Our aim is not only eco-friendliness but also to make a real and tangible positive environmental impact.

GiftGood: Every artist has their muse. What inspires you the most when you're designing your handcrafted pieces?

JS: Nature is my ultimate muse when it comes to designing handcrafted pieces. There's an inherent beauty in the organic forms, textures, and colours found in the natural world. Whether it's the delicate intricacies of a flower petal or the soothing hues of a sunset, nature offers an endless well of inspiration. A good example would be our first collection, “24 hours”, which showcases a variety of landscapes from various countries.

GiftGood: Customisation is a key aspect of your offerings. Could you share an example of a particularly challenging or unique custom project you've undertaken?

JS: Certainly! One of the most memorable custom projects was for a talented architect who had just completed their first significant project. They approached Jhoou Studio seeking a unique way to commemorate this milestone, requesting to include their logo and the project title name, which we gladly did!  This project highlighted the power of customization in turning personal achievements into tangible, lasting mementos. It's a testament to the beauty of collaboration and the ability of handmade items to tell unique stories.

GiftGood: What's been the most surprising or positive feedback from customers about your approach to sustainability, with your materials, products and/or packaging choices?

JS: The most heartening feedback has been from customers expressing appreciation not just for our unique designs but also for our commitment to sustainability. Knowing that our customers share our values and recognize the effort we put into minimizing our environmental footprint is truly rewarding.

GiftGood: We’re curious - If Jhoou Studio had a bucket list for the next few years, what would be at the top?

JS: At the top of our bucket list is expanding our range to collaborate with artisans locally and also globally whilst exploring diverse cultural influences in our designs. We also envision transforming what might be discarded, such as used coffee grinds and plastic waste into beautiful, eco-friendly pieces that tell a story of sustainability.

Lastly, we aspire to advocate for sustainable creations by hosting workshops. We believe in sharing knowledge and empowering others to embrace eco-friendly practices. Through workshops, we hope to inspire a community of like-minded individuals who share our passion for sustainability, fostering a collective effort towards a more conscious and responsible world.

GiftGood: In closing, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers about Jhoou Studio or your journey?

JS: I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our supporters and customers who have joined us on this journey. We're excited for what the future holds and deeply grateful for the support of our community!

GiftGood: Huiting, thank you for such a delightful chat. Wishing you continued success and joy in your flavourful journey!
